Revolution in Russia in 1917: What Are The Lessons For Today?

105 years since the 1917 Russian Revolution took place, it is hardly spoken about in the capitalist media or in education, other than to discredit, smear and belittle it. That is because it was the first time that the working class have taken and held power across an entire state, and to this day provides the prime example of how socialist revolution can be achieved.

While in many ways living standards across the world have collectively increased significantly since 1917, the polarisation between rich and poor has never been so great. No wonder that increasing numbers of workers and young people are showing an increasing interest in the ideas of Lenin, Trotsky and the Bolshevik Party who successfully led the overthrow of the tsarist regime and Russian capitalism, and nearly sparked a pan-European revolution.
